Sale&Pepe: cooking becomes more exciting and refined

A new look for the magazine from November

Sale&Pepe, the Mondadori Group brand, which for thirty years has brought pleasure to the table thanks to exclusive and refined gastronomic ideas, has been revamped, become even more special, rich and of the moment.

From November, the magazine, edited by Laura Maragliano, will focus on emotions, with a contemporary design, exciting photographs and the uniqueness of Italian excellence, covering the territory, products and companies from the world of Made in Italy, a unique and balanced overview of elegance and simplicity.

“With this redesign Sale&Pepe shows that it is always with the times,” Maragliano explained, “without betraying the character of a magazine dedicated to people who love good cooking and everything that surrounds the culture of food.”

The images will have more space and a more engaging effect, with new, sophisticated and elegant  typefaces, easier to read texts and recipes, close-ups and more creative and curated pages.

Sale&Pepe will also be enhanced by new features and columns dedicated to wine, extra-virgin olive oil, objects for the table and domestic appliances, territorial excellence and sustainability.

On the strength of a range of consolidated brands, covering all segments in the food area and reaching varied and loyal targets, over the years the Mondadori Group has been able to innovate and enrich the offer of its food system, while reinforcing its leadership in both magazines and digital.

Among the brands in the portfolio are thee historic titles that this year are celebrating important anniversaries: Sale&Pepe, for 30 years a refined, gourmet; Cucina Moderna, the market leader that for 20 years has offered useful and practical recipes; and Cucina no problem, for 15 years a simple, but never banal ally in the kitchen.

The offer is completed by Guida cucina, a source of everyday recipes for the family, and two recent arrivals: the web site Cookaround, a point of entry into the world of cooking and everything that surrounds it, and Giallo Zafferano, a young and “social” crossover brand, Italy’s leading cooking site, now also available on newsstands.

A continuously growing system of brands that, in addition to print and digital, also promotes events and courses led by professional chefs at the Scuola di cucina di Sale&Pepe, launched in the heart of  Milan from the experience of the upscale monthly.

The launch of the new magazine Giallo Zafferano – an operation that for the first time has seen the creation of a print magazine from an already leading web brand – will also strengthen the market share of the Mondadori Group in the food area, taking it from 54% to around 70% in terms of circulation.

The first issue of Giallo Zafferano, with a launch campaign that can count on an initial fan-base that is already strong on social media , sold around 450,000 copies separately or in combinations with some of the Mondadori Group’s other magazines.

A multi-brand e multi-channel offer that enables the food system to reach a combined total audience of almost 9 million contacts every month between readers and users (source: Audipress 2016-III and Audiweb, February 2017).

This success with the public has also been accompanied by an excellent response from advertisers, allowing the food system managed by Mediamond to record, in the first 4 months of 2017, an increase of 30% in sales compared with the same period of 2016, thanks also to the launch of Giallo Zafferano.

Digital School: the 2nd edition of the courses organised by the training school of Donna Moderna, CasaFacile and Sale&Pepe gets under way in collaboration with Piano C

Enrolments are now being accepted for lessons in content and social media management starting on 15 October in Milan

Following the success of the first edition, on 15 October the new courses will start in Milan of the Digital School, the training school created by Donna Moderna, CasaFacile and Sale&Pepe, a year ago on the experience of the three brand leaders in the women’s, interior design and food sectors.

The three Mondadori magazines will make available their experience and skills in the digital field and social media for the second edition of the course in content and social media management, this year in collaboration with Piano C, the social innovation laboratory that brings together women and work. A space in the centre of Milan that produces digital and other projects to combat female unemployment in Italy.

The course in content and social media management enables students to acquire and expand their digital skills through 42 hours of lessons organised in two levels: a base module to learn what, how and where to communicate in order to be discovered on the web – from the construction of an editorial plan to the secrets of social media management, and from online writing to strategies for the analysis of SEO results – and an advanced module, aimed at those with a good knowledge of the web and a desire to become autonomous in online brand development, content planning, data analysis and the business management of the activity.

The course includes classroom lessons and the testimony of the editors and digital professionals from the three Mondadori magazines, in class tutoring for the entire duration of the course, case history studies and a final workshop for both modules.

The lessons of the course in content and social media management will be held in Milan at Piano C, via Simone D’Orsenigo 18, from 15 October 2016 for the basic module and from 28 January 2017 for the advanced module.

The training offer of the school of Donna Moderna, CasaFacile e Sale&Pepe is also available in e-learning mode, with 19 courses and programmes for different needs.

Sale&Pepe presents “Street Food Experience” from 12 to 17 april in the new design district of Ventura Lambrate in Milan

The food & design event organised by the Mondadori brand during the Milan Design Week

From 12 to 17 April, during the 2016 Design Week, Sale&Pepe opens the gates of the Giardino Ventura in Lambrate to the “Street Food Experience”, and event devoted to street food conceived by the magazine that is a point of reference for food lovers and those on the look out for refined and authoritative proposals, in collaboration with Skibox Montblanc.

In the heart of the new design district of Ventura Lambrate in Milan “Street Food Experience” brings together the passion for street food – a phenomenon that in recent years in Italy has enthused over 35 million people – with the world of design, and with a special attention to local and zero km produce: an opportunity, promoted by Sale&Pepe, to rediscover and enjoy places and traditions in an ideal mix between the global and the local, a variety of menus and the promotion of the best food and emerging chefs, with menus designed for every occasion and to satisfy all tastes.

In an area of around 750 square metres, the event will feature an authentic designer street food market (from vegan kebabs to freshly-baked Neapolitan pizza, fish & chips and gourmet hamburgers) and the stage set up by Sale&Pepe will host showcooking demonstrations, food & design labs, book presentations and much more.

And in the green background there will, of course, also be an exclusive relaxation zone furnished by CasaFacile, where visitors can relax in three home structures designed on the theme of a “voyage around the world”.

In addition to food and design, there will also be music, thanks to R101: in fact the radio station will accompany the entire event with a dedicated playlist and on the evening of Wednesday 13 April will present a live DJ on the occasion of the inauguration of the Ventura Lambrate area.

“Street Food Experience” will be open from Tuesday 12 to Sunday 17 April, in via Ventura 12, inside the Giardino Ventura in Lambrate, from 10 am to 8 pm (on Wednesday, with the R101 DJ set it will remain open until 10 pm; and on Sunday until 6 pm).

ExpoExpress, an exhibition train that will travel across the country will promote the Universal Exposition, offer the public a range of free meetings, events, laboratories, castings and show cooking demonstrations.

The initiative was presented today in Venice by the chief executive of the FS Italiane Group, Michele Mario Elia, the Government Commissioner for Expo Milano 2015 and chief executive of Expo 2015, Giuseppe Sala and the chief executive of the Mondadori Group, Ernesto Mauri. The special representative of the event was the actress Ornella Muti, who is also the Ambassador of Expo Milano 2015 and WE – Women for Expo.

The train will stop at 12 Italian cities between today and 12 December with three carriages – Live Expo, Food Expo and Casa Expo – each dedicated to specific activities. The Live Expo and Food Expo carriages will feature free activities open to the public promoted by Donna Moderna, Grazia, TuStyle, Starbene and Sale&Pepe, about fashion and cooking, nutrition and wellbeing, castings to become the protagonist of a fashion shoot, a women wall with the experiences of readers and show cooking demonstrations with star chefs. Meanwhile, the Casa Expo will offer an interactive path to explain Expo Milano 2015 and the focus on the theme “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life”. Casa Expo will host the Ambassadors of Expo Milano 2015 and WE-Women For Expo, a project developed by the Universal Exposition in collaboration with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Fondazione Arnoldo e Alberto Mondadori.

During its tour ExpoExpress, which will depart from Venice’s Santa Lucia Station on the occasion of the 71st International Film Festival, and will stop off at 11 other cities: on 6 September in Verona, 12 September in Padua, 19 September at Milan Central, 1 October in Genoa, 11 October in Trieste, 17 October in Rome, 24 October in Turin, 14 November in Bologna, 21 November in Florence, 28 November in Pisa Centrale, 7 December at Milan Porta Garibaldi and 12 December in Naples.

Each of the stops of ExpoExpress will have wi-fi connection thanks to the support of Telecom Italia and Cisco, Official Partners that will provide fixed and mobile networks, IT solutions, IP and wi-fi connection and other innovative solutions for Expo Milano 2015. The technological layout of the exhibition train is by Samsung, the Official Edutainment Global Partner of Expo Milano 2015.

The decision to promote the Universal Exposition by train is not coincidental. Indeed, as underlined by the chief executive of the FS Italiane Group, Michele Mario Elia, the train offers an opportunity for people to meet and for cultural exchange, which is precisely what will happen for the countries that will animate Expo Milano 2015. In any case the support of the FS Italiane Group is across the board, from the supply and strengthening of railway services (connections and stations) to technical and logistical support for the exposition area and the national and international promotion of the Universal Exposition through our sales channels.

The Government Commissioner and chief executive of Expo Milano 2015, Giuseppe Sala, underlined the values and the educational content expressed by the theme of the upcoming Universal Exposition in Milan “Feeding the Planet. Energy for Life”. Expo Milano 2015 will attract 20 million visitors from across the world and the train the ideal form of transport for reaching the exposition site.

Not only recipes with original images, but also an extensive gastronomy glossary, news, events, personalities and the first on-demand foodTV

Salepepe.it, the first food portal by Mondadori is now online. The website has been designed for those whose passion for food is an expression of both their identity and lifestyle.

On the strength of authoritative content, Salepepe.it offers all food enthusiasts a unique experience, thanks to the assets and editorial know-how of the Mondadori network, that includes not only recipes but the entire world of cooking culture, with news and information about events, tasting tours, wines and personalities.

“This portal reinforces the Mondadori cooking system which, with four established brands, supplements, specials, books and ebooks, has combined sales of 1 million copies and over 4 million readers for its 116 annual issues, in addition to a database of more than 100,000 recipes and a market share of more than 60%,” declared Carlo Mandelli, general manager of Magazines Italy at the Mondadori Group.

Salepepe.it has access to a selection of top recipes from the archives and experience of the magazine Sale&Pepe: an authentic multimedia “recipe book” including thousands of recipes with photo galleries giving users a step-by-step guide to prepare the dishes; a “Cookery School” with detailed content and a dictionary of gastronomy with over 1,000 items, lists of ingredients and cooking techniques: from “allappante” (“astringent”) to soubise, and from arancino to vichyssoise.

The recipes featured in the launch are in three formats: “A little extra”, videos shot in point-of-view, giving the user the impression that she is preparing the dish herself; “From our kitchen”, stop-motion videos of recipes published in Sale&Pepe; “Bonjour bon ton”, a new and ironic web series with TV personality laGiovanna.

The new portal comes to the web with an innovative format and layout, thanks to a full-screen presentation of the content that enhances even more one of the assets that has always identified and distinguished the Sale&Pepe brand and recipes: high quality, refined and elegant images.

Also the design has a big visual impact and has been developed to adapt to the characteristics of the different devices used: a responsive site, conceived also for mobile that can be used also on a tablet while you are cooking.

The recipes are accompanied by advice and suggestions on the most appropriate wines, with combinations specially and exclusively researched for Salepepe.it by Helmut Köcher, founder and president of the Merano Wine Festival, and supported by over 600 profiles of quality wines drawn from the extensive Mondadori Electa catalogue.

It will also be possible to find information using a series of search filters based on calories, preparation time, cooking time, difficulty, region of origin. And Salepepe.it will also help you to find the best restaurants, in collaboration with 2Spaghi.it that, thanks to a community of food enthusiasts, collects reviews, special offers and suggestions directly from the source.

Another partner of Salepepe.it is Avinado.it, a buyers club for wine enthusiasts and producers, that offers special deals for users of Mondadori’s first food portal.

A cross-media system dedicated to a passion for food
An integrated world from Sale&Pepe, with previews, links to the magazine and the web site and videos, as well as links to social networks and extra multimedia content that enhance the user experience.

Mondadori’s first food portal also has a strong presence on social networks, with 306,000 fans of the magazine on Facebook, 3,000 followers on Twitter and more than 1,600 on Instagram, and to coincide with the launch will also join G+.

The launch of Salepepe.it will also coincide with the introduction of the first on-demand foodTV, Salepepe.Tv, with video recipes and interactive playlists in high definition, divided into chapters so that users can select and watch individual phases of the preparation of the recipes. An innovative format that can be personalised, also for special initiatives and product placement.

A jury of blog stars for the #cucinacon contest
To mark the launch of the new site, Sale&Pepe has also organised the #cucinacon contest, that enables food enthusiasts to take part in a challenge by submitting recipes with photos.

This initiative, created in partnership with Gnammo, Italy’s leading social eating web site, has been developed thanks to the high level of engagement of users and bloggers that have posted and shared recipes and transforming a passion for food into a social experience.

On Saturday 12 April, at 5.30 pm, the 3 best recipes, from those of the users who have taken part in the contest, will be revealed at a showcooking inside the Mondadori Food&Design Experience, at the Magna Pars in Via Tortona 15 in Milan.

From 9 to 13 april CasaFacile and Sale&Pepe at Magna Pars with five days of décor laboratories, showcooking and other activities open to the public

CasaFacile, the monthly that helps you to create your own style of furnishing edited by Giusi Silighini and Sale&Pepe, the magazine for food lovers and those looking for exclusive gastronomic ideas edited by Laura Maragliano, will present, at Magna Pars in Via Tortona in Milan, the Mondadori Food&Design Experience, a unique event that combines the world of cooking and the world of interiors, realized under the patronage of Milan Expo 2015.

From Wednesday 9 April to Sunday 13 April, at the heart of the week of the Milan Design Week, the two Mondadori titles will stage a rich calendar of events dedicated to food and design: five days of completely free entertainment, activities, décor laboratories and e showcooking for those who want to live cooking as a passion to be shared and those who want ideas and advice for the best ways to furnish their homes.

CasaFacile and Sale&Pepe will open the doors to their “home” to all visitors in a welcoming and elegant location furnished by by the Gruppo Euromobil, and recreated for the occasion at the Sala Elisir in the Magna Pars and made up of a living area, bedroom, children’s room, craft room and kitchen, that will become the theatre of a range of initiatives.

Everyday, from 12 to 8 pm (on Sunday until 6 pm), the public is invited to watch tasty showcooking displays and to participate in styling laboratories.

You can get an opinion of an architect or handy tips about decorating solutions, thanks to the advice of experts from CasaFacile who will assist members of the public with creative and rapid ideas to improve your home.

Every evening the editor of CasaFacile, Giusi Silighini, along with the magazine’s staff and experts, will meet the public to offer useful and amusing advice on a range of issues: from energy saving to sound-proofing, advice on how to create the perfect balcony to the ideal photos for the world of social media.

The chefs of Sale&Pepe will be present to surprise in an area entirely dedicated to cooking, with innovative recipes and original showcooking demonstrations.

At the end of each day, the editor, Laura Maragliano, together with authors and famous chefs will talk to the public; including, the ‘king of chocolate’ Ernst Knam who will present one of his special creations, Paola Maugeri the TV presenter and journalist, an enthusiastic expert in vegan cooking, from Bologna Alessandra Spisni who will explain how to make excellent pastry and pasta and, finally, Mauro Fermariello who will enthuse the visitors to the Mondadori Food& Design Experience with his wine stories.

Charity initiative
The Mondadori Food&Design Experience will also welcome into its “home” an important charity initiative, the CasAmica: by buying the chocolate eggs made available by CasAmica, visitors can contribute to supporting the association that provides hospitality to the sick and their families.

A team of food bloggers will follow all of the event’s activities live, with photos, videos, live blogging and tweeting with the hashtag #FoodExp.

Mondadori Food Experience: in Milan three days of food & wine based on shows and events

From 8 to 10 February as part of the Milan Food&Wine Festival

8 to 10 February are the dates fro this year’s Food Experience Mondadori, the show-event on the culture of food and wine that in recent years has been part of the most important international events held in Milan, such as the Fashion Week and the Design Week.

For its fourth edition, the Mondadori initiative, that is run in collaboration with Sale&Pepe, will be a part of the Milan Food&Wine Festival, an encounter with some of the leading players in the world of wine and designer cuisine and an opportunity to discover the best products and some of the most interesting Italian chefs, to be held at MiCo Milano Congressi – Gate 15 (Via Gattamelata, 5).

The Mondadori Food Experience will present 3 days of show-cooking for adults and children, guided tastings and cooking classes open to everyone, alongside the food and wine trails and tastings organised by the Festival, with 400 wines and some 24 chefs, pastry cooks and pizzaioli. Also this year, the formula includes exhibitions by big-name chefs and a rich calendar of events and activities to learn the techniques and secrets of haute cuisine, taste outstanding delicacies and actively participate in their preparation. Among the names present over the three days are pastry expert Davide Comaschi, gold medal-winner at the World Chocolate Master 2013, as well as prestigious chefs such as pizza maestro Simone Padoan, the chef star Davide Oldani, the revelation Luciano Monosilio, the virtuous Loretta Fanella, on this occasion running a designer class for children, and many more.
