Interni: in China from Wednesday 4 February

The event "Interni China Night 2015" to mark the first issue of the magazine

1954 -2014: Interni is 60 years old

From 3 December on all newstands along with the magazine a special volume 60 YEARS of INTERNI

INTERNI, the interiors and contemporary design magazine that has been a part of the fantastic and adventurous story of Italian furniture and interior design is 60 years old. And to celebrate this anniversary INTERNI has produced a special volume 60 YEARS of INTERNI, published by Mondadori, that illustrates six decades of evolution in design with articles, images, documents and advertising campaigns published since 1954.

“The story of INTERNI coincides with the history of Italy since the end of the second world war and, above all, with the history of design. From being Italy’s first interiors magazine, INTERNI evolved into a system of communication that now gives an account of the world of design through a series of different parallel publications and media: form print to the web, as well as creating and organising events and exhibitions conceived as a means of facilitating exchange between designers, producers and distributors,” explained Gilda Bojardi, editor of INTERNI. “Over the years we have had the great fortune to follow and cover the development of a sector that represents Italy around the world and which has come about thanks to the intuitions of genial architects, designers and cultural operators, courageous entrepreneurs and a host of other exceptional individuals who have had, and continue to have, the courage to dare,” concluded Bojardi.

60 YEARS of INTERNI has attracted the support of 170 clients, some of the most representative of the design sector, though not only, who have contributed to the extraordinary results of the INTERNI system which, on a like-for-like basis, will close 2014 with a 14% increase in advertising revenues compared with 2013.

The volume reflects the many stories that have made Italian design great, a sort of visual account, divided into six decades, that outlines the main lines of development in habits and tastes in living and the design culture in Italy, also as seen through the main protagonists and many of the iconic products of each period: from the first Olivetti calculator in the 60s, to the Pop culture of the 70s, and from the domestic revolution of the 80s and Kartell’s legendary polycarbonate chair, that marked the beginning of a new transparency in interiors on the 90s, up to the new trajectories of the present.

Completing the history, is a collection of all of the covers of 60 years of INTERNI, 15 collections of drawings, the designs that every month are done for the magazine by a major designer or architect, and a selection of the events created and organised by the magazine over the years.

Plus, especially for the occasion a special web site has been created 60anni.internimagazine.it featuring unseen interviews with the editor Gilda Bojardi and the tutors form the different decades analysed, a browse-able pdf format of the book as well as a selection of printed content from the volume INTERNI.

60 YEARS of INTERNI, with over 450 pages, features and introduction by Deyan Sudjic (director of Design Museum in London) and contributions from a number of leading critics, including – Vanni Pasca, Franco Raggi, Enrico Morteo, Andrea Branzi, Cristina Morozzi, Marco Romanelli, Beppe Finessi and Christoph Radl – and will be available on all newsstands from 3 December together with the latest edition of the magazine at the price of €10 (including the magazine).

Interni arrives in China: taking the number of international editions of the magazine to three

Following the signing of a licensing agreement between Mondadori and China International Publishing Group (CIPG), from next February Interni will be available also in China.

The new edition takes to three the number of international editions of the title which is already published in Russia and Thailand.

“With this new launch, Interni enters one of the most important markets for the development and affirmation of goods carrying the Made in Italy label; a country full of opportunity for creativity and design,” declared Zeno Pellizzari, general manager of Mondadori International Business. “We are particularly proud that one of China’s leading publishers has recognised and appreciated the value of our magazine, which we are sure will become a point of reference for all the many enthusiasts of the sector in the country,” Pellizzari concluded.

This operation is a significant step forward in the promotion and spread of culture and design launched in China with a view to creating winning synergies with a range of markets. With Interni, edited in Italy by Gilda Bojardi, China International Publishing Group will enrich its portfolio with a magazine that for 60 years has appealed to enthusiasts of and professionals from the sector: an essential guide to new products and innovative trends in the culture of living, and a voice of Italian and international creativity and production.

It is a brand that is already accredited in China thanks to a number of successful initiatives; including: the exhibitions 50+2 years Italian Design, organised in 2006 at NAMOC (the National Art Museum of China) in Bejing; the 2011 show Creative Junctions, in collaboration with Tsinghua University – Academy of Art & Design on the occasion of the First Beijing International Design Triennial; in September 2012, the magazine was also the protagonist of the Beijng Design Week, one of China’s most important events dedicated to design and where two projects designed by Alessandro and Francesco Mendini and Zhang Ke-Standardarchitecture were presented.

China International Publishing Group (CIPG), with more than 20 branches and 12 foreign offices, including in the US, the UK, Germany, Belgium, Russia, Egypt, Mexico, Japan and Hong Kong, operates in the book market, publishing over 3,000 titles per year, and in magazines with a portfolio of some 30 titles in ten different languages and 30 web sites.

FuoriSalone 2014: INTERNI presents the exhibition event “Feeding New Ideas for the City”

The INTERNI system confirms its strategic role in terms of advertising thanks to the strength of the brand and the activities organised to celebrate the title’s 60th anniversary

FEEDING NEW IDEAS FOR THE CITY” is the name of an important exhibition event – developed by the monthly INTERNI, along with Expo Milano 2015 as partner and the patronage of City of Milan – to be held in the courtyard of the University of Milan from today until 18 April, as part of the FuoriSalone, fringe events of the Milan Design Week. The co-producer of the initiative is AgustaWestland, which has contributed with a competition for young designers “Flydeas for the City” and Audi with the installation “primarchittetura” by Walter Maria de Silva.

FEEDING NEW IDEAS FOR THE CITY also aims to introduce and develop the theme of Expo Milano 2015 Feeding the Planet. Energy for Life”, declared Gilda Bojardi, the editor of INTERNI. “We have brought together original contributions from designers of international standing and leading companies in the fields of innovation and research who have identifies and produced temporary installations to develop the theme of “feeding” in a metaphorical and multidisciplinary sense,” Bojardi concluded.

With this exhibition event, which gives Milan unique and exceptional visibility, the INTERNI system confirms its strategic role also in terms of advertising, with sales up by 7% in the period January-April compared with the same period of 2013: an excellent result achieved thanks to the strength of the brand and the activities developed for the Design Week and the magazine’s 60th anniversary.

A large number of world renowned designers and architects have contributed to the exhibition event: Walter Maria de Silva for Audi, Torafu Architects with Panasonic, Kengo Kuma & Associates with Salvatori and with Asahi Building-wall, Kajima, Obayashi, Shimizu, Taisei, Takenaka and Ferragamo Parfums, Archea with atelier-a and Architettura Sonora, Paola Navone with Deborah Milano and Gruppo Pozzi, Speech Tchoban/Kuznetsov with Velko 2000, dRMM with the American Hardwood Export Council – Ahec, Nemesi&Partners with Italcementi Group and with Styl-Comp Group, and many more besides.

FEEDING NEW IDEAS FOR THE CITY will also be an opportunity to celebrate the 60th anniversary of INTERNI, from the beginning one of the leading observers of international contemporary design. To underline the significance, six well-know architect-designers – Antonio Citterio, Paola Navone, Matteo Thun, Giulio Cappellini, William Sawaya and Rodolfo Dordoni – have created an ad hoc installation: six tables that combine to form a 72-metre-long table, placed at the Portico del Richini. Each designer interpreted an assigned decade with the use of special surfaces and selecting different objects, seating and lighting.

But this year INTERNI will also extend its activities to another location in the heart of Milan, the Orto Botanico di Brera (the University of Milan’s botanical garden), that will host the installation “Giardino Geometrico” (Geometric Garden) by Lissoni Associati, created together with Laminam and Living Divani. The magazine has also planned a series of actions for the restructuring of the garden, some of which were completed in 2013, for example the construction of a pathway for the sight impaired (undertaken by the Orto Botanico with the Rotary Club of Milan) and the new entrance in Via Fratelli Gabba (overseen by the Amici di Brera).

2014 is also the 25th anniversary of the FuoriSalone and the Guida FuoriSalone® – which is also available as a free app for iPad and iPhone, as well as Android-based tablets and smartphones – which this year features over 500 events and continues to be an indispensible tool to find your way around the ever-increasing range of showroom, exhibitions and events.

The 60th anniversary of INTERNI: 2014 begins with an international issue

A range of new features also online with the launch of the new apps: Design Guide Index and Design Guide Paris

INTERNI begins a year of celebrations for the title’s 60th anniversary – 60 years in which the magazine has explored the future of design – with an international issue (January/February) in both theme and content: an issue entirely in English with translations in Italian at the end of the magazine, which will be officially presented during two important international appointments for the sector: in Cologne, Germany during the IMM Cologne fair (from 13 to 19 January 2014) and in Paris, France during Maison & Objet (from 24 to 28 January 2014). The magazine will distributed at hotels, art galleries, design and fashion stores, with promotions at airports and railway stations in Milan, Paris, Cologne, Berlin and London, and with additional special distribution in the UK, Brazil and the United States.

The theme of this special issue of the magazine is “crossover”: a term borrowed from the automotive sector that indicates a mixture of types, the coming together of contexts and a capacity to absorb ideas from different worlds, both geographic and cultural.

The magazine will specifically take a closer look at crossover in contemporary design and examine products “that combine and express different languages,” declared Gilda Bojardi, editor of the magazine. “This is an area that INTERNI feels particularly drawn to for the specific role that it has taken on in recent years in encouraging creative alliances between designers, companies, representatives of the world of culture and professionals from the world of design in its broadest sense.”

The cover of this issue communicates a surprise and also toast to 60 years of Zanotta, a company that “for 60 years gives shape to the design,” in a career full of successes and three ‘Compassi d’Oro’.

INTERNI also begins the year by celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Design Guide Index (a supplement to the January/February issue). New features can be found in this, the 30th edition, in both the print and digital versions, the latter available both on the web and mobile, through the new web app Guidaindex.com that will be active during the whole of the year; a unique guide dedicated to the world of Italian design with more than 8,000 addresses: who produces and what, where you can buy and what, as well as the designers, photographers, promoters, publishers, teachers, organisers, exhibitors. You can also download a complete list of the showrooms and sales outlets of the companies listed in the Guide with their trademark.

INTERNI is also launching a new digital version of the Design Guide Paris, a web app that will be available from 20 January 2014 from the web site paris.interniguides.com and optimised for desktops, tablets and smartphones. In a bilingual French/English version, it also includes an interactive map of Paris indicating the main landmarks, a selection of useful information and a detailed photo gallery. Now in its 15th edition, the guide is an essential source of information and orientation for visitors to Paris with additional indications regarding events, hotels, restaurants, exhibitions and museums, as well as all the news from Maison & Objet.

The Interni system, which has become established over time as the undisputed leader among architecture and design magazines with a share of the Italian market of over 50%, begins 2014 with an international edition that has also been a great success from an advertising point of view, with revenues up by 10% on 2013.

And over the year there will be other surprises for both readers of the magazine and the advertising market, thanks to special initiatives and an unmissable appointment with an issue wholly devoted to the history of design to be published in October.

FuoriSalone 2013: Interni shows “Hybrid Architecture & Design”

The absolute leadership of the magazine in the sphere of design system communication is confirmed

“HYBRID ARCHITECTURE & DESIGN” is the name of the great exhibition-event created by the monthly magazine INTERNI, sponsored by the City of Milan and Expo2015, and co-produced by the BE OPEN Foundation and iGuzzini, which will take place in the courtyards of University of Milan, between now and April 21st, for the Milan Design Week.

“HYBRID ARCHITECTURE & DESIGN is dedicated to the theme of métissage in architecture and design projects,” said Gilda Bojardi, director of INTERNI. “The concept of hybridization is interpreted as an encounter between cultures and technologies capable of generating answers to the uncertainties and problems of the contemporary world. Métissage, then, within this project, provides a credible alternative to the concept of the melting pot, the uncritical sum of cultures and traditions, and the leveling of languages, design and culture originated by globalization,” Bojardi concluded.

With this exhibition-event, which endows Milan with a unique and exceptional visibility, the magazine is confirmed as the absolute leader in the communication of the design system. It is proved by the data which the system INTERNI – INTERNI/Panorama, INTERNI Annual, INTERNI International Kingsize, Design Index and Guide Itinerari- can boast in April 2013: a total circulation of 770,000 copies, with a total foliation of 1,100 pages.

HYBRID ARCHITECTURE & DESIGN also triggers a stimulating dialogue between designers and companies, which takes the form of site-specific works, designed as new forms of intercultural communication.

Numerous are the names of designers, architects and companies who have created “HYBRID ARCHITECTURE & DESIGN” with their projects: Steven Holl with Pimar, Teuco Guzzini and Ferragamo Parfums, Christophe Pillet, in collaboration with Studio Azzurro videomaker for BE OPEN , Akihisa Hirata with Panasonic, Archizero with Franchiumbertomarmi, Mario Cucinella with Marazzi, Michele De Lucchi with Safilo, Daniel Libeskind with Cosentino Group, Simone Micheli with Aqua Industrial Group, GLIP and Zambogroup, Luca Scacchetti with Wolf Haus, Speech & Tchoban Kuznetsov and Mark Bravura with Arch-Skin, Dean Skira with iGuzzini, GLIP, Zambogroup, Autoban with Deborah Milano Group and Wells, Martí Guixé with Levi’s, Federica Marangoni with FART, the exposure of the prototypes of the competition Decò Ter supported by Regione Lombardia, Przemyslaw “Mac “Stopa with Samsung Chemical Europe.
