sustainability

The Mondadori Group has signed up to the “Valore D” Manifesto for women at work

The “Valore D” Manifesto for women at work, which has been signed by the Prime Minister, the Mister for economic Development, INPS (the Italian department of social security) and by the chief executives and chairmen of many leading Italian companies, is a 9-point programme that defines specific measures, in line with international standards for the reporting of sustainability, to enhance female talent in the workplace.

By signing the Manifesto companies commit themselves, among other things, to ensuring that , for example, in the selection process, to have groups of candidates from both sexes (Point 1) and to monitor the number of women at various levels within the company (Point 3), contributing to reducing the pay gap and encouraging the professional growth of women, also at the highest levels (Point 8). Special attention is also given to the management of maternity (Point 4) and support for parents (Points 5, 6 and 7).

On signing up to the Manifesto, our chief executive Ernesto Mauri underlined the fundamental contribution made by women to the Group’s success.

Mondadori’s support for the Manifesto is a further step in the company’s efforts to enhance the presence of women in the company, following its support for the Equal Opportunities Statement presented by Confindustria in 2012, and is in line with the principle set out on our Code of Ethics.

Valore D is the leading business association for the promotion of diversity, talent and female leadership for the growth of the companies and the country. Founded in 2009, it now brings together some 150 Italian companies.

Donna Moderna, in collaboration with Sportellostage.it, presents the “Il lavoro per i giovani” project

From 10 May, over 4 weeks, 400 exclusive internship opportunities

Tomorrow sees the launch of “Il Lavoro per i Giovani” (Jobs for the Young), a new initiative by Donna Moderna and Sportellostage.it, which aims to offer work experience opportunities for school-leavers and recent graduates.

Donna Moderna, in each issue during the month of May, will present 100 internship opportunities, a total of 400 places: a range of different roles inside companies selected exclusively for this project and spread across the whole country. In addition to the opportunities, the magazine will also provide precise instructions on how to apply for the positions.

“With the spirit of service and social solidarity that has always made Donna Moderna a useful and unique magazine, we have developed a concrete initiative,” declared the magazine’s co-editor Cipriana Dall’Orto. “It’s not enough to say that ‘we believe in the young’, ‘the crisis will end.’ We rolled up our sleeves and found 400 opportunities of getting into a company; a first, very important, step that many young people can’t manage on their own. We open a door: then it is up to them to make the most of this chance. Requirements? Courage, resourcefulness, and a willingness to face a challenge,” concluded Cipriana Dall’Orto.

“The initiative was born from the experience of Sportellostage.it in facilitating the entry of young people into the labour market through internships. Since 1999 over 60,000 young people have found jobs in companies thanks to our internships,” declared Marina Verderajme, President of Sportellostage.it -ACTL.

Full details can be found on Donnamoderna.com, including a practical guide to the job market, an extract from the ACTL – Sportellostage.it guide and a forum where an expert will respond to questions from users. Mondadori Electa and FAI – Fondo Ambiente Italiano together again in 2012: a book and a promotional campaign in support of FAI

Following on from the 2011 campaign for the Mondadori guides in support of FAI – Fondo Ambiente Italiano for the recovery of the St Francis’ Wood in Assisi, 2012 begins with a renewal of cooperation between the publisher and the most important non-profit foundation for the protection of the Italian countryside.

Mondadori is proud to publish the book by the chairman of FAI Ilaria Borletti Buitoni: Per un’Italia possibile. La cultura salverà il nostro paese? (Towards a Possible Italy: Can Culture Save the Country?, Mondadori) in bookshops from 13 March 2012. A documented pamphlet of 128 pages devoted to the wealth of Italy’s assets, which, after years of abandonment and political inaction, are in a state of emergency. An engaging and disturbing portrait in which the author doesn’t forget to list the many positive examples, large and small, and increasingly numerous, of efforts and initiatives committed to building environmental awareness, the recovery of lost areas (oasis, historic gardens, sanctuaries, etc.) and the enhancement of cultural tourism..
Part of the proceeds from the sale of the book Per un’Italia possibile will be devolved to support the work of FAI – Fondo Ambiente Italiano.

The book is published just a few days ahead of the XX Edizione di Giornata FAI di Primavera (the 20th FAI Spring-day) which will take place on 24-25 March 2012, one of the most important events organised by FAI, a keenly anticipated and successful annual event (500,000 visitors in 2011), during which hundreds of particular locations, many of which are inaccessible during the rest of the year, are opened to the public (this year 670 locations across Italy will be open). The Mondadori guides will celebrate the 20th edition of the Giornate FAI di Primavera and anyone who buys a Mondadori Top10 guide on 24 or 25 March will also be supporting the initiatives of FAI – Fondo Ambiente Italiano.

Mondadori presents “Mobi”

In the Duomo Mondadori Multicenter, this is a new way to conceive a space dedicated to children
From January, a range of learning and fun activities, meetings and creative laboratories to encourage children to read actively, consciously and with enthusiasm

In the Duomo square Multicenter, Mondadori has opened “MOBI”, a newly conceived space dedicated to kids.

Created for children, but also for their parents, this is a colorful and cozy place right in the heart of Milan, where you can play and develop language skills accompanied by “Mobi” (Mondadori Bimbo) to discover books. Inside this space, in fact, on top of a very wide selection of books and toys divided and selected by age group, many didactic and play activities take place, with the aim of teaching children how to read actively, consciously and with enthusiasm.

Indeed “MOBI” is innovative in the design of its fittings, but most of all for the didactic contents supplied by MUBA (Museo dei Bambini Milano – Children’s Museum of Milan) and amusement opportunities created by multimedia paths and creative labs.

Many of the suggested activities foresee the use of tablets, with which children can interact and increase their imagination. Through 10 iPad, positioned on a large interactive platform in the center of the room, they can build their own ideal e-book, a veritable electronic book, with cover, title, author, and short story. The youngest (0 to 6 years old) will work thanks to illustrations, while the eldest (6 to 12 years old), will measure themselves against a more structured story. Moreover, by connecting to www.mobimondadori.it and by retrieving the e-book created inside the Mondadori Multicenter, it is possible to read the book itself on one’s iPad, color it and print it at home.

Creative labs also propose to children the exploration and the discovery of storytelling with reference to the four main themes developed in the multimedia project: the story’s characters, places, animals and travels.

Organized classes from January to May at MOBI every Sunday are free with necessary booking; the first event will take place on Sunday 8 January with two sessions (from 3 to 4 pm and from 4.30 to 5 pm) on the location of stories for children between the ages of 4 and 6; the complete schedule and all information on application are available at the Multicenter store.
Mondadori Multicenter opens its door to students too: the initiative Alunni in libreria (students in the bookstore) has been renewed. It offers a visit to discover the bookstore with a non-scholastic approach to reading. Meetings will take place in the mornings until May, from Monday to Friday (info 0245441161).

As a completion to the Mondadori Multicenter offer for kids, Sale&Pepe cooking classes for children will take place in February on the store’s “Cook&Books” floor: many meetings for youngsters to experiment with their own imagination while cooking and learning how to select ingredients. The class schedule can be found on www.corso-di-cucina.it .

The Duomo square Mondadori Multicenter is the largest space dedicated to culture and leisure in the heart of Milan. The store, with a surface of 4.000 square meters, offers its customers a wide range of books and dvds, a news stand and an exclusive line of stationary, gadgets and gifts; on the second floor you can find the most up to date digital technology, computers and phones. All this makes the Mondadori Multicenter a very pleasant meeting space for the whole family, where you can dive into culture surrounded by an atmosphere rich in stimuli and novelties.

Ti racconto un sorriso: the charity initiative promoted by Mediafriends and Mondadori returns for the sixth year running

In bookshops from 29 November Ti racconto un sorriso (Mondadori, pp.60, €19) is a book and CD of short stories presented by six famous faces from television which has been put together to contribute to the appeal promoted by Mediafriends (the charity association created by Mediaset, Mondadori and Medusa), which this year is in favour of the Centro Benedetta D’Intino.
The book features seven tales, based on true stories, is illustrated by Paolo D’Altan and read, on the accompanying CD, by voices from R101: Cristiano Militello, Paolo Cavallone and Sara, Marco Balestri, Lester and Paolo Dini, Federico l’Olandese Volante, Chiara Lorenzutti and Alberto Davoli, Tamara Donà and Tamy T.

The first six tales all have a happy ending and are taken from stories of children in difficulty who, in different parts of the world, thanks to the help of the various associations supported by Mediafriends, have managed to regain their smile and the hope of a better life. Only the last story is still waiting to have its happy end.

Also this year, the stories are introduced by six personalities from the world of entertainment who have enthusiastically taken part in this charity effort: Enrico Brignano, Piero Chiambretti, Rita dalla Chiesa, Alessia Marcuzzi, Alfonso Signorini and Silvia Toffanin.

Porceeds from the book will be donated to Mediafriends Onlus which this year is supporting the Centro Benedetta D’Intino, the operating structure of the Fondazione Benedetta D’Intino, founded in 1992 by the Mondadori, D’Intino and Formenton families, in memory of Benedetta, who died at the age of fifteen months due to congenital heart diease.
The Centre works to guarantee a future for children with physical, psychological and social difficulties and operates in two sectors: psycho-therapeutic services, which helps children from birth with emotional problems, and, augmented and alternative communication services, which supports children and adolescents with serious communicative difficulties.
The aim of the Centro Benedetta D’Intino in Milan is also to consolidate in the daily lives of these children the results achieved by the Centre, with specially trained staff who continue to provide families, school mates, teachers and friends with the necessary support. Through its web site, www.mediafriends.itwww.mediafriends.it, Mediafriendswill publish the results of the progress being made and the use of the funds provided by the book.

The Bol.it Donabol operation brings writers and the web together to provide an ideal library for four italian schools

At the XXIV International Book Fair in Turin, Bol.it will launch DonaBol – Books donated by the web, a new charitable initiative that will involve the donation by Bol.it of a library to four Italian schools. The aim is to provide the schools with the texts that have had the biggest impact on the lives of readers and net users by sharing their favourite titles with friends, passing on emotions, tastes and opinions that are, in fact, exchanged and give users the sense of being a part of a community and being involved in an important initiative.

Through DonaBol, and along with those taking part, Bol.it will bring a passion for books and reading to others who can enjoy the positive effects of the actions of others. To support the schools and to give everyone the opportunity of helping kids and students become familiar with the books they deem fundamental.

The schools that will benefit from the initiative – among the most need in Milan, Turin, Naples and Palermo – have been selected thanks to the collaboration of the CGM cooperative, Italy’s largest network of social enterprises, operating across the country since 1987, which has more than 10,000 operating units and a staff of 45,000 in the various regions.

To take part in DonaBol all you need to do is visit the Bol.it stand at the Turin Book Fair (from 12 to 16 May 2011, pavilion 2, stand H126-J125) and sign up, or go to the web site www.bol.it where, from 12 May, there will be a dedicated page for Donabol, and indicate the five titles that you consider the most important in your life. When you have completed your list, the user will be invited to indicate the initiative to as many people as possible, sharing the titles on Facebook and Twitter and inviting their friends to take part. Everyone is invited to make their selection of books for DonaBol: the more contributions, the more books will be donated and the more the dream of donating a library to the four schools will become a reality.

The initiative will be launched on 12 May, with the opening of the Turin Book Fair, and will go on until the end of the month. When the collection of titles has been completed, the most selected titles will join those to be donated to the schools and Bol.it will support the head teachers of the selected schools, who will evaluate their suitability with the schools’ syllabus and needs.

The winners
The initiative by Donna Moderna and the Vodafone Foundation Italy attracted entries from a great number of women who put together hundreds of projects for the creation of various forms of women’s social enterprise.
The rules of the competition laid out three main areas of interest:

Home & Work. Getting better organised for ideas for the improved management and conciliation of professional and family demands in women’s daily lives;

Solidarity. Lending a hand for the elaboration of proposals aimed at getting more women who have been subjected to abuse or live in difficult situations into work.

Web. Let’s get online for web projects or those involving telecommunications and aimed at providing incentives for female employment.

The selection was made on the basis of over 270 projects submitted, of which 50% were dedicated to the conciliation of home and work.
Among the many projects received, special attention was given to issues of environmental sustainability and the creation of forms of aggregation to put women in contact with each other on the basis of common interests.

The best projects in each of the three categories were awarded with the sum of €100,000.

Emma Bonino, Federica Guidi and Barbara Palombelli awarded the prizes to the three winning projects:

1) “Pratice the future” (San Giuliano Milanese – MI)
In the Home & Work section, the stand-out project was “Practice the future”, characterised by its focus on environmental sustainability and the different needs of women in the home.
