The new Cosmopolitan hits the newsstands a new formula and new format to be closer to readers

From 12 February a new look for the monthly edited by Annalisa Monfreda
An all-round review, including the cosmopolitan.it web site community

Cosmopolitan, the Hearst-Mondadori monthly edited by Annalisa Monfreda, will hit the newsstands on Saturday 12 February with a completely new look.

Changes to the new Cosmo begin from the format, which will be bigger (21.5 x 28.5cm), putting a greater emphasis on the images, the ideas and readers’ contributions. The design combines colour and elegance, while the photographic language is more refined and able to speak to the readers in an ironic and personal manner with which they can identify.

The new Cosmo will remain a point of reference for young women from 25 up: a magazine that accompanies women as they grow into adulthood, with an amusing and authentic approach, able to address any issue, while continuing to reflect a way of life marked by pleasure and self-irony.

One’s relationship with oneself, with men, fashion, beauty, work, technology health, travel and entertainment will remain at the heart of the Cosmo world. With the difference that they will be enriched by more unusual points of view, thanks to the ironic views of talented young writers such as Federica Bosco, Chiara Cecilia Santamaria, Paolo Maddeddu and Micol Beltramini.

“We have returned to the roots of Cosmo, to rediscover the meaning of the three words that have always accompanied the magazine in more than 60 countries around the world: fun, fearless, female,” explained the editor Annalisa Monfreda. “Fun is what guides us in the selection and treatment of topics; fearless is the courage that we use in telling our stories in a sincere and transparent way; female simply reflects the way that we see the world,” concluded Monfreda.

In the monthly’s new formula news will provide an opportunity to reflect on contemporary phenomena and changes in the lifestyle of readers. Ever greater attention will also be given to the world of celebrities and the curiosities that characterise them. The fashion and beauty sections will continue to have a primary place and will be inspired by what’s new and emerging trends, without abandoning a “coaching” role for readers.

The new Cosmo has also changed with a view to growing also online, thanks to the launch of the new community on the web site www.cosmopolitan.it (300,000 unique users and 2.6 million page views per month, Source: Nielsen, Site Census). The readers of Cosmo will have a digital space where they can keep up to date, create their own blog, post photos, create discussion groups, exchange private messages, participate in the forum, chat and have fun with the dress-up function.

On the advertising sales side Angelo Sajeva, chairman and chief executive of Mondadori Pubblicità, did not hide his satisfaction: “It’s just over two months since the new Cosmopolitan was presented to the market and positive reactions have been immediate. The interest of advertisers has gone beyond expectations, an indication that the new formula works and that the clients have rediscovered in the magazine the characteristics of a successful product. The new format, the new content, the photographic images and the renewed attention to the fashion and cosmetics sectors have enabled us to achieve overbooking with the first issues of the re-launch and a very positive forecast for subsequent issues,” concluded Sajeva.

In support of the launch of the new Cosmo a campaign has been developed across various media: TV (Mediaset, Sky, digital), print (Mondadori magazines), web, social networks and PoS.

The first two issues of the new Cosmopolitan will have an exceptional print run of around 300,000 copies, and a promotional cover price of €1.

Panorama launches “Tag”, the future of QR

An innovative system for reading content on mobile devices
The new technology makes its debut tomorrow on newsstands

Panorama takes another step forward in the world of multimedia information with the launch of “Tag”, an innovative technology designed to access extra content using mobile devices.

In the issue on newsstands tomorrow, Friday 28 January, Panorama will provide all of its readers with the new Tag code, which is fast and easy to use and makes it possible to connect much more rapidly to the web, superseding the previous QR technology exclusively introduced by Panorama in 2009.

The weekly edited by Giorgio Mulè is consequently pursuing, for the first time in Italy, a new form of multimedia content integration.

Following the debut of QR, AR “augmented reality”, VIP™ (Video In Print) and 3D the Mondadori newsmagazine confirms its commitment to innovation by continuing to experiment new ways of integrating the printed page with new digital technologies. And Panorama continues to push back the frontiers of news and information by embracing the broadest range of technological platforms.

Advertisers have also decided to bet of the innovation proposed by Panorama with the Tag technology and, in the next issue, four clients – IBM, Edison, Ecolamp and Kangra – will try out the new system inside the spaces dedicated to them.

Tag is a simple colour code that is easy to use and makes it possible to see video clips or access information of any kind. All you need to do is to capture the code with the lens of a smartphone or similar device and the multimedia content (video, audio and surveys, etc.) will appear on the display.

The software to read the Tag system is unique and works with all mobile devices with a camera and web connection. Installation is automatic and free: just send an SMS with the message “Tagme” to the number 320 20 41 711, or use the browser on your device to access http://gettag.mobi/ and follow the instructions.

Readers of Panorama will find all the necessary information for installation in the next issue of the weekly (and in all subsequent issues).

R101 expands with new presenters and news programmes

The arrival of Isabella Eleodori, Tamy T. and Federico L’Olandese Volante
R101 always closer to its listeners: more music, voices and content

R101 begins 2011 with an expanded schedule of music, voices and content.
After a change of skin at the end of 2010, focusing on an even more exciting music offer, from today R101 will also “sound different” and not only thanks to the big hits of yesterday and today, but above all thanks to some extraordinary new entries.
In fact, joining the R101 team of presenters are Isabella Eleodori, Tamy T., and Federico l’Olandese Volante, personalities who have helped to write the history of Italian radio.

“It’s a start to the year that is full of new features and positive energy for the station,” declared R101’s station manager Guido Monti. “We are delighted that Isabella, Tamy T. and Federico have agreed to accept the challenge and they will be on the air with new and engaging shows,” Monti added. “An offer of music that will be increasingly accurate and exciting, new programmes to add to our consolidated successes: a demonstration that R101 has the listeners at its heart, accompanying them day by day in their normal lives, talking about their dreams and listening to their experiences,” concluded Monti.

Starting with the irresistible comedy of “La Carica di 101” with Cristiano Militello, Paolo Cavallone and Sara, right up to “Superclassifica” with Federica Panicucci; from “Molto personale” with Marco Balestri to the new and mould-breaking programme by Vladimir Luxuria in the role of commentator, and from the unmissable duo Paolo Dini and Lester to the evening entertainment provided by Alberto Davoli and Chiara Lorenzutti.

R101 will increasingly follow its listeners with an increase in live programming: in fact, in January the station will be on the air from 5 in the morning until well into the night, without continuity solutions. At the same time, there will be an increase in the space dedicated to news, with three bulletins every hour: “Ultimo minuto” a 60 second news update, with “In primo piano”, providing more detailed look at news from around the world every twenty minutes.

Publishing: Focus celebrates its 18th anniversary

A special event in Milan to celebrate Italy’s most widely-read monthly
Greetings from space from the astronaut Paolo Nespoli

Focus, Italy’s most widely read monthly is celebrating its eighteenth anniversary with a big event to be held at the Rotonda della Besana in Milan, as part of the big exhibition 2050. Il Pianeta ha bisogno di te (2050. The planet needs you), organised in partnership with London’s Science Museum.

Published by Gruner+Jahr/Mondadori and edited by Sandro Boeri, Focus is Italy’s biggest-selling monthly. It is aimed at a qualified target of people who are curious and interested in discovering the world. Over the years Focus has established itself as an authentic unbounded guide to knowledge. The breadth of the subjects it covers (medicine, geology, archaeology, biology, astrophysics, mathematical and physicals sciences, nature and technology) clear, accurate and rigorous exposition and a use of spectacular and high-impact images are among its distinguishing features.

“Thanks to its unique formula, that combines scientific rigour with simple language,” underline Giacomo Moletto, managing director of Gruner+Jahr/Mondadori, “the magazine’s success has made it a leader in Italian publishing with more than 6 million readers and a circulation of almost 500,000 copies. The Focus brand has become so well known that it has recently been successfully “exported” also to television on the national channel Italia Uno in prime time: further proof of the title’s popularity,” concluded Moletto.

There has also been an excellent response from advertisers: in the period January-December 2010, in terms of pages sold for the monthly, Mondadori Pubblicità recorded an increase of 22% compared with 2009.

This evening’s event will be truly spectacular, thanks to the “transformation” of the Rotonda into a sort of special issue of Focus, with the façade of the church acting as an interactive cover for the magazine.

Guests will be entertained by amazing sets and exciting projections that play with the infrastructure, both inside and outside, of the building, but, above all, they will be able to share a really special moment when greetings will be delivered from space from the astronaut Paolo Nespoli. The special guest star of the event will be DustBot, Italy’s “Wall-E” which has been designed to interact with people.
