Mondadori Store is an official partner of the 2025 Jubilee

The Pilgrim's Card opens its doors to exclusive offers in the Mondadori Bookstore

For the 2025 Jubilee, Mondadori Store, the largest network of bookstores in Italy, is a cultural partner of the Pilgrim’s Card: the free digital card, required to participate in Jubilee events, access specific services and benefit from exclusive agreements.

As part of this prestigious collaboration, Mondadori Store will offer all those who are enrolled in the Jubilee, and therefore holders of the Pilgrim’s Card, a series of advantages within a selection of bookstores in its network.

“With our bookstores, we are very proud to be an active part of initiatives related to the Holy Year,” commented Carmine Perna, CEO of Mondadori Retail. “This collaboration confirms the role of Mondadori Bookstores as socio-cultural strongholds even on the occasion of an extraordinary anniversary such as the Jubilee, which is bringing millions of visitors to Rome.”

“We are pleased to collaborate with Mondadori Store for Holy Year 2025, especially due to the possibility that pilgrims will have access to discounts when purchasing books and essays. Culture, literature and art, in fact, can be a privileged path for the encounter with the Lord”, emphasized H.E. Msgr. Rino Fisichella, Pro-Prefect for the Evangelization section of the Dicastery and responsible for organizing the Jubilee.

The agreement provides a 5% discount on a selection of books and 15% on a series of stationery, gadgets and toys. In addition, in the Mondadori bookstores participating in the initiative, pilgrims will be able to find limited-edition merchandising products dedicated to the Jubilee such as rucksacks, bottles, t-shirts, anoraks and much more. To take advantage of the promotion, simply go to one of the selected bookstores and show the Pilgrim’s Card app at the till.

All information on the agreement with the Pilgrim’s Card, and the list of participating Mondadori Bookstores, are available on the dedicated page of the Mondadori Store website.

The new Bookstore enriches the cultural scene in the town, which already has a bookstore in the Mondadori Store network

There is a strong focus on young readers, partly thanks to the We are Junior format

Mondadori Store, Italy’s largest bookstore network, is opening a new Bookstore in the centre of Cecina (LI), offering the town an additional space devoted to the world of books and entertainment.

The bookstore, which will open tomorrow in the town centre’s pedestrian area, expands the Mondadori Store cultural offer in Cecina, which already has another large Mondadori Bookstore (Corso Giacomo Matteotti 141).

“The decision to open a second bookstore in the town was taken in response to the excellent results that are being achieved by the first Bookstore in Cecina. The new Rizzoli Milano opens

A historic bookshop mixing culture with events and an international outlook

Speakers at the presentation event:
Mondadori Retail CEO Carmine Perna,
Président-Directrice générale Éditions JC Lattès Véronique Cardi,
Paola Dubini from the Bocconi University,
journalist and writer Beppe Severgnini

Tomorrow, Friday, May 9, sees the opening of the new Rizzoli Milano, an iconic bookstore originally opened in 1949, which over the years has welcomed generations of passionate readers, writers and leading figures from the publishing world, to become a symbol of the city and the country’s cultural history.

After an important renovation project that has enhanced its identity, the bookshop in its historic location in Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II now provides new spaces and a restyled offering with a full calendar of events and an even stronger international vocation.

«Rizzoli Milano is much more than a bookshop. It’s a unique space of its kind designed to encourage people to meet and chat, capable of engaging a wide audience of book lovers. In one of the city’s most famous locations, it combines the appeal of a “historic store” with a dynamic contemporary cultural offer, to give the public a window on the world,» said Carmine Perna, CEO of Mondadori Retail. «The project is also the symbol of a deep bond with the city of Milan – which has been renewed every day for more than 75 years – thanks to our collaboration with the City Council, demonstrating that reading and culture are a fundamental part of Milanese life and one of its greatest assets,» Perna added.

The Rizzoli Milano renovation project is a strategic step in the development plan of Mondadori Retail, the Mondadori Group company that manages the largest network of bookshops in Italy, with over 500 stores across the country: around 30 new stores will open in 2025, including directly managed and franchised outlets.

The plan confirms the constant commitment of the Mondadori Group – Italy’s leading publisher – to boosting the value of bookstores as key locations to promote reading, meetings and cultural dialogue.

THE PRESENTATION
The day opened with an introduction from Mondadori Group CEO Antonio Porro and an institutional welcome from Emmanuel Conte, Milan City Councillor for the Budget, State Property and the Special Housing Plan.

The presentation of the new Rizzoli Milano continued with a discussion entitled “Rizzoli Milano, a historical bookshop for contemporary audiences. A meeting place for culture, events and an international outlook”, with Mondadori Retail CEO Carmine Perna, Président-Directrice générale Éditions JC Lattès Véronique Cardi, Paola Dubini, Professor of Management at the Bocconi University, and journalist and writer Beppe Severgnini.

The debate – moderated by Alessandra Tedesco – examined the role of bookshops as cultural venues in urban and international communities, and explored the ability of a location like Rizzoli Milano to combine its identity as a historic store with a cosmopolitan vocation.

In interviews conducted by Mondadori Retail among a selection of loyal Italian customers to investigate perception of the cultural role of bookshops in general and of Rizzoli Milano in particular, the store’s symbolic value and identity clearly emerged:

  • 70% recognise it as a historic bookstore;
  • 57% consider it a symbol of Milan;
  • 31% value its international profile.

Rizzoli Milano attracts readers of all ages and geographical backgrounds – from the citizens of Milan to international visitors, the latter accounting for about 40% of the bookshop’s customers – as well as young people, who are turning to original-language books in increasing numbers.

On this point, Paola Dubini, Professor of Management at the Bocconi University, observed: «Milan is an international city not only because it attracts tourists from all over the world, but because many international communities live here. It is important to have a cultural venue to welcome the “historic” residents of Milan, their cosmopolitan children, and people from around the world who have decided to make Milan their home, as well as people coming through the gallery. This is the distinguishing feature of the Rizzoli bookstore that makes it feel particularly welcoming,» concluded Dubini.

The event was also an opportunity to take an in-depth look at trends in reading habits and use of bookshops in other European contexts, with a special focus on France. In her contribution, Véronique Cardi, Président-Directrice générale Éditions JC Lattès, offered an overview of the French publishing market, highlighting similarities and differences in the link between readers and bookstores.

«I am delighted and honoured to have been invited to the reopening of the historic Rizzoli bookshop in Milan, to reaffirm the central role bookstores have played and will continue to play in Italy as they do in France,» said Véronique Cardi.

A different angle was taken by Beppe Severgnini, journalist and long-time Rizzoli author, who shared reflections and anecdotes illustrating his point of view as a writer, reader and visitor to Italian and international bookshops. In his fascinating remarks, Severgnini highlighted the cultural and symbolic role of bookshops as places for encounters, discoveries and memories.

«I have been a Rizzoli author since I had black hair, starting with ‘Inglesi’ in 1990. More than twenty titles have followed, with the latest, ‘Socrates, Agata e il futuro’, published in 2025. Over these thirty-five years I have come to realise that a bookshop, like a publishing house, is an imagined community. Like a country, a football team, an association. Sometimes publishers and authors get distracted and forget this. Readers don’t. Readers sense that behind a publisher there is a story, a personality, a project, a flavour,» said Severgnini.

THE OFFER OF THE NEW BOOKSTORE
Completely redesigned in terms of space and services, the new Rizzoli Milano meets the needs of a contemporary multigenerational and international audience.

The bookstore occupies two floors, on a total area of 755 square metres, with four large windows overlooking Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II.
Its shelves are organised into numerous thematic sections that accompany visitors on an exciting journey through books and architecture.

On the ground floor, visitors are welcomed into a comfortable and innovative space for all book lovers. After a large area with the latest publications, novels and best sellers, they come to a new department with accessories, guides and gift items inspired by the city of Milan.

Continuing on, the visitor can immerse himself in the famous Rizzoli Ottagono room, where a carefully curated selection of books, a rich catalogue of original-language titles, is available: the room is furnished with cherrywood tables, a homage to the cinematic imagery of the Rizzoli bookstore in New York, with designer lamps from the historic heritage of the Rizzoli Milano store.

On the way to the lower floor, the visitor will enjoy an area for all lovers of stationery, pens and gift items and the scenic staircase winding around the bookstore’s panoramic lift.

On the lower floor, visitors are greeted by a large R surrounded by a wall of books dedicated to the thematic areas of the store, a sort of Ariadne’s thread.
This floor houses the new events room – for presentations, meetings with authors and talks with the public – overlooking a large wall of illustrated books on art, design and photography, leisure, travel, tourism and design pieces celebrating the uniqueness of Milan, selected from the archives of leading Italian manufacturers.

The lower floor is also home to the fiction department and a new non-fiction area – with a new arrangement of tables and spaces for reading and research – enhanced by the bookstore’s historic octagonal skylights over the Galleria concourse.
Meanwhile, the “We Are Junior” play and entertainment area gives children and small readers the opportunity to discover the world of books in a stimulating environment made to measure for them. The new area is separated from the rest of the bookshop by the distinctive yellows of the format designed for small children, and offers a curated selection of illustrated books, first readers, educational games and entertainment, making the store a welcoming place for families.
The lower floor’s offer is completed by the section for Kobo e-readers, with accessories and gift cards.

For an increasingly people-oriented shopping experience, the bookshop is enhanced with a series of services, including a new multi-purpose reading room that reinforces its identity as a place to meet and talk.
In addition, both floors are equipped with Trovalibro touchscreens – in Italian and English – that help readers explore the products and find out where the book they are looking for is located, automated checkouts to simplify the shopping experience, and a Click & Collect service, which lets customers make online purchases on the bookstore’s website and pick them up in the shop.

THE ARCHITECTURAL PROJECT
The architectural redevelopment project for the new Rizzoli Milanodesigned by the Paolo Lucchetta Retail Design studio, with Virginia Lucchetta and Gianluca Trovó – focused on preserving the bookstore’s historical identity, while enhancing its contemporary vocation.

In addition to the new organisation of the space and the use of American cherrywood for the furnishings, distinctive elements – such as the iconic brass handles in the shape of an “R”’, the ink-blue floors, the cast-iron pillars, the octagonal skylights and the original vaulted ceilings designed by Giuseppe Mengoni for the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II – have been preserved and restored.

Innovative architectural solutions have been introduced to make the spaces more expressive and functional, starting with the windows, which showcase the books in the store. The lighting has also been restyled, thanks to a careful relamping project creating theatrical yet more sustainable effects.
All the furnishings have been redesigned to stimulate curiosity and the pleasure of choosing a book, fostering a more personal and interactive relationship with the publications and products through the store graphics and visual communication.

The new Mondadori Bookshop opens tomorrow in Rome’s historic Galleria Alberto Sordi

Mondadori Store continues to grow, confirming its position as the most extensive bookstore network in Italy with more than 500 directly operated and franchised shops

Mondadori Retail CEO Carmine Perna: “This opening is a milestone in the expansion of our network, which has been strengthened with a new socio-cultural centre in the heart of Rome.”

A packed calendar of public events, with book presentations, book signings and meetings with personalities from the world of entertainment

To guarantee an increasingly widespread presence across the country through a new bookstore format matching current trends and readers’ interests; to make a social-cultural service dedicated to books and entertainment available to the entire community; to use innovation and multichannel options to enrich the bookstore experience. These are the objectives of Mondadori Retail, which today opened a new bookstore in Rome in the Galleria Alberto Sordi, just a few yards from Palazzo Chigi.

With the latest store, the Mondadori Group company – which has opened more than 30 new bookstores in 2024, both directly managed and franchised outlets – thus takes another step in its strategic development plan, confirming its position as the most extensive bookshop network in Italy with more than 500 bookstores.

“The new Mondadori Bookstore in Rome is a milestone in the expansion of our network. We intend to continue strengthening our role as the key player in the business by creating socio-cultural centres throughout the country, from large cities to the smallest villages, for the widest possible audience,” said Mondadori Retail CEO Carmine Perna. “Reading and entertainment are essential tools for us to encourage sharing and interaction and promote dialogue between the generations. The new Mondadori Bookstore in Rome also demonstrates our ability to systematically integrate all our sales channels – direct, franchised and online bookstores – and the importance of the synergy among everyone in the network. This approach was decisive in achieving a result that is particularly important for us, the opening of our 50th directly owned bookstore, which we are delighted to celebrate today,” Perna concluded.

The new Mondadori Bookstore

With the opening of the new Mondadori Retail bookstore in the Galleria Alberto Sordi, Mondadori Retail also consolidates its presence in Rome, where it has been active for more than twenty years with 6 direct bookstores and 17 franchised outlets.

The new Mondadori Bookstore is located in the Tritone arm of the monumental Galleria Alberto Sordi owned by Fondo Megas, a fund held 100% by Fondazione Enasarco and managed by Prelios SGR – a company in the Prelios Group and one of Italy’s leading asset managers – which in 2023 launched a major redevelopment and restyling project to turn Rome’s historic “drawing room” into a meeting place and landmark of the capital, as well as a strategic crossroads for shopping and tourism.

The store offers an assortment of 20,000 titles, from classics to contemporary fiction, and occupies a total area of 450 square metres. The format applies the distinctive Mondadori Store concept, in full harmony with the architectural elements of the Galleria. The bright spacious environment is distributed over three floors, providing perfect visual continuity with the surroundings and the city with its mixture of ancient and modern.

The ground floor displays all the latest from the book world – bestsellers, BookToks, thrillers, novels and local publications – and also has a stationery department.
The first floor offers the entire catalogue, from the great classics of literature to non-fiction, international books and Kobo eReaders, as well as a space for cultural events.
The basement is the domain of the younger generation, with the We are Junior department, where even the smallest children can find a rich selection of books, illustrated fairy tales and educational games, and the Just Comics department, with a wide selection of titles for fans of comics and manga, superheroes and graphic novels, as well as music products like CDs, vinyls and K-pop. Each floor of the bookstore is equipped with Trovalibro touch screens to help customers explore the merchandise, and automatic checkouts to simplify the shopping experience.

The store’s architectural design and layout is by Kallipigia Architetti, a firm founded by Elisa Innocenti and Giovanni Cipriani. Kallipigia Architetti are known for their ability to combine creativity and efficiency, handling every stage in a project, from the initial survey to completion, with meticulous care.

Events

Starting immediately after the opening, the new bookstore will host a rich calendar of events, including book signings and meetings with authors and personalities from the world of entertainment. The aim is to actively engage readers and foster cultural dialogue, establishing the store as a socio-cultural centre for the entire community. The program of presentations includes: 28 October, Sisters (Rizzoli), the first book by Paola and Chiara; 30 October, Cambio vita cercasi (Garzanti) by Francesca Safina; 5 November, Cento parole per raccontare una vita (Sperling & Kupfer) by Red Canzian; on 6 November, author Claire Dee will sign copies of her book Beyond the surface (Sperling & Kupfer). Mondadori Store opens a bookstore in the new hub of Scalo Milano Outlet & More

A cultural hub dedicated to reading and entertainment is now available to all outlet visitors

Mondadori Store, the largest network of bookstores in Italy, has opened a new store at Scalo Milano Outlet & More inside the shopping centre’s new hub.

The new area – designed and planned by architecture firm Design International – is the result of an expansion of the outlet following an urban redevelopment project: it spans over three levels where some of the most important brands on the Italian and international scenes can also be found. These include a Mondadori Bookstore, thus enriching Scalo Milano Outlet & More’s offering with an area dedicated to the world of books and entertainment.

The new bookstore expands the already extensive Mondadori Store network in the area, in line with the network’s strategy of spreading culture and promoting reading, creating an interactive meeting point and a true cultural garrison in a commercial space.

“It is with pride and satisfaction that we inaugurate the first bookstore inside Scalo Milano Outlet & More by Mondadori Store: an opening that promotes the dissemination of culture in all its forms and that is part of our strategy of continuous renewal and development of our network, which includes more than 500 stores, both directly operated and franchised, throughout Italy,” says Carmine Perna, Managing Director of Mondadori Retail.

The new Mondadori Bookstore covers 300 square metres and offers a selection of 15,000 titles, from the great classics to best sellers, including fiction, non-fiction and miscellaneous. Special attention is given to younger readers with the We are Junior format, which includes educational games and picture books to stimulate their imagination with the most intriguing stories, and a department dedicated to Just Comic and the manga phenomenon. Areas dedicated to #BookTok, for the new generation of readers, as well as stationery, toys, and gift cards, also expand the store’s offer.
The Scalo Milano Outlet & More bookstore is also serving readers online: customers will find information and news on Facebook and Instagram. They will also be able to get in touch with the store throughMondadoristore.it digital services to check if a book is available, order and pick it up in store, choosing from a catalogue of over 1 million titles.

The new Mondadori Bookstore follows the plan for the renewal and development of Mondadori Store, the largest bookstore network in Italy, with more than 500 stores in cities and smaller towns. The cultural organisation is active throughout the country, online with the e-commerce site Mondadoristore.it and the book club. In addition to books, its primary service, it also provides entertainment, events and multichannel services, reaching more than 20 million customers every year.
