Elena Biffi

Elena Biffi was born in Milan in 1966 and graduated with honours in Political Economics from the Bocconi University in 1989. Since then, she has followed a career in insurance and finance, developing mathematical optimisation, risk analysis and evaluation models.

From 1991 to 2001 she worked with Studio Attuariale G. Ottaviani, Grant Thornton Assicurazione & Finanza as chief executive officer, and Shandwick Corporate Communication.

In 1995 she took a specialist course in financial risk at the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa, and is now a researcher, honorary fellow and professor in quantitative subjects at the Sacred Heart Catholic University and the Sapienza University.

She is a founding partner of EM Associates (2002) and SEM Data (2021), where she provides consultancy services. She is a co-founder of CSIP, Certified Sustainability Insurance Partners, for sustainability in the insurance industry.

She has been a member of the Board of Directors of Arnoldo Mondadori Editore S.p.A. since April 2018.

She is an independent director of FinecoBank, REVO and Elba Assicurazioni and a liquidator on the La Concordia S.p.A. receivership (appointed by IVASS). She is also a member of the Advisory Board of Assofintech, and sits on the Technical Committee of Friend of the Sea (World Sustainability Organization) for sustainability, respect and promotion of the marine environment. She is a mentor and investor in innovative benefit start-ups, a member of AIAF (Italian Financial Analyst Association) and AIFIRM (Italian Association of Financial Industry Risk Managers).

She has published several papers, most recently Sustainability Game (with M. Pedol, S. Melzi), in “Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Management, Volume 28, Issue 4 (2021).
