Mondadori Bookstore MA

Mondadori Bookstore Naples | MA opens to the public on Monday, 5 August

Everything’s set to welcome the public, both local and international, with lots of books, entertainment, culture, nature and sustainability.

Only a few days remain until the long-awaited opening of the Mondadori Bookstore | MA in Naples. The bookstore, located in the city’s central Galleria Umberto I, will open on Monday, 5 August with Mayor Gaetano Manfredi in attendance for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10.30 am.

“We have always wanted the Mondadori Bookstore | MA flagship store to be in Naples, an ideal city as Neapolitans are passionate readers”, said Antonio Serpe, Chief Retail Officer of Mondadori Bookstore | MA Italy.

“The project, in a symbolic place like Galleria Umberto I, also represents the highest expression of our philosophy: to place culture and art, in all its forms of expression, at the heart of things and to draw people, especially young people, as near to it as possible. That’s why we’ve worked diligently and passionately at the technical committee set up by the Mayor in collaboration with all the institutional figures involved, in order to solve the problems related to the location and make all the energy that characterises this extraordinary and colourful city, a landmark dedicated to culture and entertainment, available to the public”, Serpe concluded.

“Like Mondadori Retail, we’re proud of completing this project, and the vision and goals which we shared from the very beginning: to create a cultural and experiential centre at the service of the community, which will become a place where we can promote reading, entertainment, eco-sustainability and culture in its broadest sense”, said Carmine Perna, Mondadori Retail’s Director. “We believe that the strength of the MA format proves how important it is to invest in cultural initiatives that can adapt to present and future challenges by developing new business models”, concluded Perna.

The Mondadori Bookstore | MA in Naples has an area of 1,000 m², with an offer of 148,000 volumes from the great classics to best sellers – including fiction, non-fiction and miscellaneous -, from the We are Junior area, which includes children’s books, educational games and illustrated fairy tales to stimulate children’s imagination, to the innovative department dedicated to manga and comics, Just Comics, which winks at Gen Z.

Overlooking the historic Teatro Salone Margherita in the San Ferdinando district in the heart of Naples, the bookstore features furnishings that harmonise with the Art Nouveau atmosphere of the spot, respecting the architectural features of the time and combining them with the company philosophy of MA (): smart, young, and eco-friendly. An ideal space where one can take a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, devote oneself to reading and harmonise with nature, thus representing a completely innovative way of understanding, promoting and creating culture. The bookstore is also very focused on and sensitive to contemporary social and environmental issues by organising various initiatives.

“Naples is the ideal city to host one of Italy’s largest smart, young, eco-friendly bookstores because it has always been a cultural centre”, said Nello Nunziata, Head of the Point of Sales’ Development Division. “It’s no coincidence that, along with the vast Mondadori Store offer, the bookstore has a space dedicated to music and cinema, book buvette areas, free coworking hubs and reading spaces reserved for reading and study, as well as a space for wine tastings and an exclusive area reserved for events, ready to host some of the most important personalities on the local, national and international art scene”, Nunziata finished.

Two large touch screen totems allow for social interaction, while self-checkout click & collect services allow customers to make their purchases online on the bookstore website and collect them in-store. There’s also Trovalibro, which gives customers the chance of finding the text they want from among those available in store, simplifying the reader’s experience in the bookstore and make it more pleasant.

The store also has a large photo gallery area, dedicated to the art and contemporary photography of young emerging talents, giving them the opportunity to exhibit their work in the heart of the gallery from time to time. This is the case for Michele De Cesare, Gerardo Massaro, Fabio Monk and Davide Orfeo, who will open the exhibition, Metamorfosi napoletana.

The Mondadori Bookstore | MA is a completely innovative fusion concept, inspired by Japanese culture and translated from simple ideas into concrete projects by the Ricciardi Architetti studio, in collaboration with architect, Selene Amico. Tall furniture that echoes the natural line of tree trunks, creating a gallery that envelops visitors and invites them to soak up a culture and make it their own, stimulating and satisfying their curiosity. Combined with bonsai trees and sansevierias – chosen on purpose because they purify the air of benzene -, everything inside the bookstore recalls nature and eco-sustainability: from the lamps to the design fittings, from the architectural choices to the quality of the materials – marine poplar wood and recycled iron -, skilfully worked by master carpenters and Coppola’s historical partners. The walls are also painted using eco water paints, which reduce the amount of free formaldehyde in the atmosphere by 80%, and with the floating floors, the store is guaranteed to have a lower environmental impact in the installation of all systems.

MONDADORI BOOKSTORE | MA expresses a young, smart, innovative, eco-friendly bookstore concept for Gen Z and beyond. The philosophy is expressed through architectural choices and the materials used to create them, and in publishing ideas and initiatives. The eco-sustainable cultural concept grew out of the entrepreneurial background of the Neapolitan-minded creators and Mondadori Retail, the managing company of the largest network of bookstores in Italy, Mondadori Store. Mondadori Bookstores can be found throughout Italy with 14 stores in Udine, Gravellona, Milan, Turin, Arma Di Taggia, Reggio Emilia, Grosseto, Rome, Salerno, Sassari, Sestu, Catania and Naples. Other openings are planned for 2024 across important Italian cities.

A new cultural centre dedicated to promoting reading and entertainment, highlighting the importance of eco-sustainability in an extraordinary area of Rome marked by the presence of numerous historical buildings and tourist attractions.

The tenth opening in Italy: this is a real achievement. The 300 m² of the bookshop show a green, eco-friendly mark, from the materials used for its construction — marine poplar, recycled iron and sustainable water-based paints — to the design itself — tall, curved furniture reminiscent of tree trunks, bonsai trees and sansevieria.

The new Mondadori Bookstore | MA houses a wide range of 22,000 titles, from the great classics to best sellers, including fiction, non-fiction and miscellaneous genres, with areas reserved for younger readers: We are Junior, the space with children’s books, educational games and illustrated fairy tales to stimulate little ones’ imagination; and the innovative Just Comics department dedicated to manga and comics with a nod to Generation Z. For the opening, it will host “Camera 260” by the artist Matteo Melis, followed by “Napoli by light” by the Neapolitan artist Luca Del Prete, one of the most appreciated young emerging landscape painters. There is also a free co-working hub, guaranteeing comfort thanks to a special book buvette, a dedicated events forum ready to host presentations and signings and a free reading zone.

In addition to green and young, the bookstore is also smart. Multimedia aspects are within everyone’s reach in the bookstore, with the presence of multimedia and interactive totems to encourage social interaction and gain information on the hottest titles. Also present are self-checkouts, the click&collect service and the Trovalibro function, which allows customers to locate their desired title among those available in the store. For the less tech-savvy, a team of nine experienced and passionate booksellers are always present, ready to accept customers’ requests and satisfy their curiosity.

Green, smart and young: three words that perfectly describe the Mondadori Bookstore | MA format that has been conquering the peninsula since 2022. Tomorrow, its ninth store will open to the public in Emilia Romagna. The bookstore, located in the Galleria Centrale building in Reggio Emilia, is located inside “Il Mercato”, a new food market concept (https://www.ilmercatodireggio.it/) based on the pillars of sociality, sustainability, art, culture and design.

Mondadori Bookstore I MA doubles stores in Piedmont: in Gravellona Toce the opening of a new contemporary and environmentally-friendly bookstore

Friday 16 June at 5pm the official opening at the Le Isole shopping centre

MONDADORI BOOKSTORE IMA, the new format of contemporary bookstores that favours the Japanese-inspired atmosphere, doubles stores in Piedmont: after the opening in January 2022 of the brand’s flagship store in Turin, inside the Officine S shopping centre, on 16 June a new store will officially open in Gravellona Toce, at the Le Isole shopping centre.

Built on an area of about 200 square metres on a single level, the bookstore aims to be a space where culture and respect for nature blend harmoniously to offer visitors a totally new cultural and shopping experience that is at the same time food and rest for the mind. The Japanese philosophy of Ma, where the brand takes its name, is a space where the soul finds nourishment and shelter from the frenzy of everyday life.

The lights and furnishings, which are used for the proposed relaxation exercises, are made of environmentally-friendly materials: marine poplar, recycled iron and of course wood in the form of curved furniture like tree trunks, bonsai and sansevieria throughout the store. There’s also a corner for reading and relaxation, multimedia terminals and other interactive tools to enhance the possibilities of enjoying the space and choosing products from more than 33 thousand volumes on the shelf from fiction to non-fiction, from classics to a range of genres, comics, CDs, DVDs, games, stationery, and gadgets offered, as well as the support and advice of the staff of young and experienced booksellers.

The space will also host literary and musical events, debates, conferences, book signings and workshops for young and old and a gallery of art exhibitions and photography by local and national artists.

“We’re proud of this second opening in Piedmont, the seventh in Italy in just over a year”, said Nello Nunziata, CEO for Retail Development. “This wonderful location amidst lakes and mountains”, adds Nunziata, “fully embodies the spirit of harmony, relaxation and contact with nature that we bring with our innovative project in partnership with Mondadori Retail”. “In addition”, he concludes, “the proximity to the Swiss border will be a source of enrichment and cultural exchange to make the editorial offer and events that we will propose even more varied and able to respond to the different needs of the readers who will visit us”.

Mondadori Bookstore I MA opens in Grosseto

The inauguration is on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at the Aurelia Antica Shopping Centre

From Saturday May 6, the MONDADORI BOOKSTORE I MA chain, a new contemporary and environmentally-friendly concept inspired by Japan, will also open in Grosseto, at the Aurelia Antica Shopping Center.

The curvy, tree-shaped, wooden and marine poplar furniture, along with the recycled iron furnishings, sanseveria and bonsai plants decorating the store’s 250 square-meter surface characterise the new bookstore of this innovative project of the Italian publishing context.

The formula, already successfully tested in Turin, Cagliari, Catania, Udine and Salerno, combines culture and respect for the environment, to simultaneously create an environmentally-friendly and multimedia location where to nourish and regenerate the mind according to the Japanese MA philosophy from which it takes its name.

“Surrounded” by books, visitors will be able to explore the over 45 thousand titles available or browse for information on the multimedia totems and seek the advice of expert booksellers while enjoying an immersive and relaxing experience.

Moreover, a large coworking section, which can be transformed into an event area whenever needed, is also available to guests for literary and musical encounters, book signings and labs for adults and children. A special area will also be dedicated to children with educational resources, games and furnishings thought around their needs and designed to stimulate their creativity.

Mondadori Bookstore | MA debutta a Grosseto

And again: a snack bar, the MACafé, developed in partnership with NUAN, will allow visitors to taste and savour fine blends of teas, herbal infusions, coffees or local wines; a corner will also be dedicated to music with a wide selection of records and CDs, and a gallery will be set up to host the works and photographic perspectives of local and national artists, starting with the Sensitivity collection, Mattia Valdes’ solo exhibition especially prepared for May 6’s inauguration.

“Having a bookstore in the shopping centre was one of 2023’s main goals – states Stefania Ricci, owner of the Aurelia Antica Shopping Centre. An innovative and relaxing environment will further make one’s experience in the gallery more pleasant. The MONDADORI BOOKSTORE | MA’s style – she continues – is perfectly in line with Aurelia Antica’s mission, that of being a meeting place for all family members. This new space enhances the offer with a truly innovative offer: one can relax while reading a good book or participate in meetings and events, while children can discover the world of books in a space specifically designed around them.”

“The warmth expressed by the city and centre fills us with joy” comments Giuseppe Messina, Managing Director of the MA book lifestyle group. “Many people wrote asking about the opening date and we also received several partnership requests: a tangible sign of welcome and integration which makes us proud of this project. Thanks to the inauguration of this new store in Grosseto, the sixth over the last few months – continues Messina -, we will pursue our mission of creating growth and employment in this sector in partnership with Mondadori Retail. We believe culture has the power of driving local development – he concludes – and hope to gradually and increasingly become a place of aggregation created around the communities we will cross through our innovative offer and the feedback we’ll receive from readers.”
